In the US over 3.5 million people marched on 21 January, joined by  hundreds of thousands more around the world. But was this a ‘protest’ march, or an unprecedented display of ‘solidarity’?.

Professor Simone Chambers is a political scientist at the University of California at Irvine. She is a globally renowned expert on deliberative democracy, visiting Australia as a guest of the Centre for Deliberative Democracy and Global Governance at the University of Canberra.
